Chilean Coastal Currents

Adapted from Ortlieb, et al, Quaternary Research 75, (2011) 91-103.

The subsurface Poleward Undercurrent transports 14C-depleted equatorial subsurface water to the south. The shoaling of these water masses during strong coastal upwelling processes contributes to increasing the ΔR values in the northern Chile-southern Peru coastal region.
